At Active Healthcare Services we focus on providing you and your loved ones with the support needed to promote independent living and maximising potential. We provide services across Edinburgh & Midlothian, West Lothian, Falkirk & Forth Valley and North and South Lanarkshire.
Our resource bases in Edinburgh, Livingston, Broxburn and Falkirk are designed to meet the needs of those on the autism spectrum, learning disabilities and complex physical needs.
Day Services
Our flexible outreach service helps people on the autism spectrum to access opportunities and activities outside their home. This may include assisting people to take part in their favourite sport or to attend a college course.
Other activities and support offered includes:

- Cooking skills
- Employment skills
- Health & well being
- Independent travelling skills
We also offer social, cooking and art groups giving our service users the opportunity to meet other people and develop social and life skills. Activities are run from our resource bases in Broxburn and Livingston. Social Group activities include visits to attractions e.g. Mill Farm, Deep Sea World and organised walks to local parks and places of interest. We also support our service users to access community-based groups in their local areas.
Livingston Resource Base
Our Livingston base provides a quiet space in the centre of Livingston, close to the main bus terminus, the main shopping centre and McArthur Glen designer outlet, offering the chance for shopping support, cinema outings, Paradise Island Mini Golf and access to the Food Court for eating out. The base is an ideal place to come to before or after a busy support session, it offers many different zones to relax in including a music room, chill room with comfy beanbags, gaming area , arts and crafts room and also an air hockey table. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable with staff there to support you to take part in whatever activity you chose to do either inside or outside the base.
Broxburn Resource Base
At our Broxburn Resource Base we pride ourselves in ensuring that the environment is calm and welcoming. Our Resource Base is securely enclosed with a large outdoor space, that can be used for outdoor games. At the front of the building we have some green space and hope develop this more in the future. We also have various rooms within in the building, that are used for a variety of purposes. We have a fully fitted kitchen, with three cooking workstations, and a sensory room that was funded through fundraising by our service users, their families, and their support staff. We also have an indoor multi-purpose area, that can be adapted to suit the needs of our service users. Within our base, we have computers that can be used by our service users for structured activities as part of their daily support. We have Messy Play activities within our base, and when the weather is good, we take these outside. Group activities that are available include a Cooking Group on a Tuesday and a Activity Group on a Wednesday, these groups provide opportunities for socialisation and learning new life skills. We also create and develop new tabletop activities for the children and young people we support to reflect their current requirements. Broxburn Resource Base is a place of safety, calm and fun, within this environment those we support are able to feel safe, calm, empowered and can achieve their own milestones in this fun and supportive place.
Housing Support
Our housing services help people to live as independently as possible in the community. Services can either be provided in your own home, or within specific accommodation such as supported housing. Housing support services provide a range of different tasks to support service users to manage their home, assistance with paperwork such as application for benefits and other claims forms, managing the household budget, keeping safe and secure, accessing support from other specialist services, and support with shopping and housework. The type of support that is provided will aim to meet the specific needs of an individual.
We can also provide support with personal care, such as help with bathing, dressing, eating.
We provide 24/7 care and support including waking nights and sleepovers.
Children’s Services
Active Healthcare Services provides support for children and young people aged 5 to 18 years of age.
Across our services we take the time to build up a deep understanding of each young person, considering their processing and thinking style in order to maximise their learning potential. Our dedicated team of practitioners receive regular training including child protection and autism hence equipping them with the knowledge and skills to enable each child and young person to have positive life experiences.
We work alongside schools to promote smooth transition for school leavers moving from children to adult services.
